Swimming with turtles
Two species of turtles live in the northwest of Lombok:
- Green turtles
- Hawksbill turtles

The Gili are a protected marine area and the protection of the turtles is efficient.
Green turtles are the most numerous. They are present around the three islands and are quite easy to spot from a boat when they surface to breathe.

A wreck while snorkeling in Gili Meno
Southwest of Gili Meno, there is a wreck. It is an old barge, sunk more than 20 years ago.
It is easy to see this wreck by swimming above it. Indeed, it is shallow, the upper part is about 6 meters deep.
In case of big waves, this spot can be difficult; and it could be not be included in your tour.
Artificial reefs – biorocks
To preserve and develop the corals, numerous artificial reefs have been installed. Some are powered by electricity, there are called biorocks.
Depending on sea conditions, you can swim above artificial reefs, including scooters/Vespa, near Gili Trawangan.
Other reefs are around Gili Air.
Coral Reefs around the Gilis’
Especially north of Gili Meno and even Gili Air, you can discover the corals of the Gili Islands, including the famous blue corals.
Along with the corals, you’ll see numerous fish of various sizes and colors.
